Meet Shannen Kok, Kuala Lumpur

Meet Shannen Kok from Malaysia. She is currently studying at Monash University, and is also the third generation of her family to study in Australia.

“I first arrived in Melbourne from Kuala Lumpur when I was 19. I chose to study in Melbourne because Monash University had the double degree option, but I also had some relatives already living here,” said Shannen.

Her family’s Australian story begins in 1959, when her grandmother first moved to study physiotherapy at the University of Queensland. Then in 1983, Shannen’s mum Lye Ling Wong moved to Victoria and met Shannen’s father, Yoon Lee Kok while they were both studying at Monash University.

Shannen is currently completing a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) and a Bachelor of Design (Industrial) at Monash University, and will graduate in 2017.

“I spent my first year living on campus, and then decided to flat with my cousin and brother for the rest of my degree. I love exploring the city and also the outdoors, especially the beach in summertime,” said Shannen.
