Melbourne ranked World’s Most Liveable City, again!

Melbourne has been voted the World’s Most Liveable City for an unprecedented sixth year in a row by the prestigious Economist Intelligence Unit’s Liveability Index.

The yearly survey scores 140 of the world’s best cities in categories such as culture, environment and education. Melbourne scored an astounding 97.5 out of 100 overall this year, with perfect scores in the infrastructure, healthcare, and education categories.

Best in class for education

Melbourne’s perfect score in education is the result of our large number of high quality institutions in both public and private education. Our world-class international education sector has seen more than 175,000 international students study in Victoria in the past year, and The University of Melbourne was recently crowned Australia’s highest international ranking university.

Sporting and cultural capital

We also scored a 95.1 in the ‘culture and environment’ category thanks to our social and religious acceptance, abundant cultural and sporting activities, and active food and nightlife scene. There’s no place like Melbourne for world-class sport and entertainment events. We have the Australian Open, the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix, the Spring Racing Carnival – and year round festivals celebrating our food, arts, and multi-culturalism. Between those events, Melburnians can enjoy trendy and accessible cafes, bars and restaurants in all corners of the city.Melbourne nightlife
